A family-friendly activity centre will open at Weston-super-Mare’s Dolphin Square next month, bolstering the range of things to do at the leisure hub.

Clip N Climb will open its doors in six weeks, with fitters working around the clock to install 12m-tall climbing walls and a plethora of other attractions for thrill-seekers.

The man bringing the franchise to Weston is Nick Mussell, from Lancashire, and he is eager to welcome his first customers – with an opening date of September 22 pencilled in.

Mr Mussell believes the indoor climbing centre will offer an accessible experience for people of all ages.

He said: “I’ve got four kids, the youngest being five and the oldest is 13. It was always hard to find something which kept them all entertained, but Clip N Climb ticks that box.”

The addition of Clip N Climb may go some way to satisfy people who have been calling for more things to do at Dolphin Square, which is also home to a range of chain restaurants, a cinema and a gym – and bosses will be hoping more traders will follow to fill the last few empty units.

Rock Up, a similar indoor climbing business, was due to occupy a spot at the complex, but it scrapped its plans earlier this year and Clip N Climb snapped up the vacant unit after hearing good things about the town.

Mr Mussell told the Mercury it is an exciting time to open in the town centre, thanks to the ongoing regeneration which has seen millions spent to revitalise Weston.

He said: “We got made aware of North Somerset and the investment which is going on here, particularly in Weston.

“We came to view Dolphin Square and it’s just brilliant. You can tell when something is going on in an area and good things are happening here.

“When we first came here to see it the weather was horrible, it was raining sideways, but there was still a good feel about the place.

“You can go to Blackpool on similar days and the weather really takes the shine off the place, but there were people about and Dolphin Square was busy.

“There’s obviously something good happening.

“We wanted to get in and be an early adopter, and we’re delighted with the unit we’ve got.”
