BUS travellers can experience a blast from the past and travel around in the transport of past decades with one new family firm based in Weston.

Crosville Motor Services is providing travel with a difference as on top of its fleet of modern coaches, the firm has a collection of vintage coaches which date back as far as the 1940s.

The vehicles, which can come complete with conductors producing tickets through a traditional machine, are available for weddings and other events and give a distinctive glimpse at how people travelled in the mid 20th century.

The firm, which is run by Jonathan Jones-Pratt with help from his parents Ann and Chris, has a depot in Winterstoke Road, where around 25 vehicles ranging in age from 1949 through to the modern day.

Most of the fleet was made in Brislington, with the youngest of the vintage vehicles being built in 1975.

Mr Jones-Pratt said: “My love for buses started at a very young age, my first purchase was a Bristol L5G 1950 which my dad originally bought in 1972.

“The aim is to restore the by gone ere and to restore traditional values within the public transport sector, we hope to operate a traditional company but with a modern twist thus offering the best of both worlds to our customers.

“We hope to cater for every occasion and being able to offer a vintage and modern bus and coach fleet we hope that this allows us to have an edge as a bus and coach operator in Weston.”

The 28-year-old said the firm was now looking to branch out into educational days for schools so pupils could come and look at how people travelled in the past, while a day trip and holiday programme to cater for elderly people was also being planned.
