Bird boxes will be built in a Weston-super-Mare park tomorrow (Friday) and Saturday after the last sessions were cancelled due to snow.

The Friends of Grove Park group was successful in a crowdfunding appeal for £10,929 so it could create a nature reserve at the back of the park, near the pond.

The group hopes by replanting the area around the pond, it will encourage wildlife to return, and draw in a larger range of birds and insects.

The plans include creating a bug palace, and work will start tomorrow morning.

People will also be able to help with making bird boxes, working alongside Osprey Outdoor, which uses the environment to help people gain skills, and staff from DIY store Bunnings.

The volunteers need cardboard tubes from toilet and kitchen roll, and sessions will run in the park, in High Street, tomorrow and Saturday from 11am-3.30pm.

Refreshments will be provided for the volunteers.
