People in Weston who are out of work or looking for a career change may be in luck after the town’s MP, John Penrose, announced a new jobs fair will take place later this month.

The latest Weston Jobs Fair will be held at Weston College Conference Centre, in Lower Church Road, on February 28 and is scheduled to run from 3-7pm.

Mr Penrose is hoping to capitalise on the success of his annual jobs fair by doubling down and giving employers and jobseekers another opportunity to showcase what they have to offer.

Mr Penrose said there was a ‘great buzz’ at the previous jobs fair in September, which broke attendance records.

He told the Mercury: “The last jobs fair worked really well, with more than 1,000 attendees and more employers than ever before.

“But we’re always trying to improve it so, when local firms asked for a second jobs fair during their spring hiring season, we decided to help.

“Instead of a lunchtime event,
this one will run from 3-7pm. That way it’s more convenient for people who already have jobs but are
looking for their next step up the ladder, or for students who want
to come along after classes are finished.”

Mr Penrose revealed the fair will include a new ‘employability zone’ which will offer expert advice for people who are finding it hard to get back into work.

He added: “Whether you’re a parent who’s taken time off for child care, an older worker who wants to refresh your skills, or a jobseeker with a disability, we will have a flock of charities and other groups to give you expert support and advice on how to find that all-important next role.

“We’ve got more employers, more voluntary opportunities and more careers advice providers than ever before, so it has the makings of being a really successful event – make sure you come down.”
