New karaoke bar plans for Weston town centre leave neighbour ‘distressed’

A karaoke bar, which could stay open as late as 2am, is planned for Weston.
Paul Ritchie, of UK Karaoke Hire, is seeking an alcohol licence for a site in Locking Road. He wants to run two karaoke rooms – one for 20 people and the other for 10.
Mr Ritchie says he wants to operate a ‘small bar’ for clients who have booked to use the venue. No walk-in customers will be allowed.
However, his plans to open a karaoke bar close to homes has attracted some criticism.
Fears of potential noise disruption and antisocial behaviour have been raised ahead of a North Somerset Council licensing hearing at the Town Hall on Monday.
One neighbour said the plans are ‘distressing’.
The council’s environment team said: “There is no guarantee noise from the singing of karaoke will be contained and not affect tenants living above.”
If the licence is granted, the venue will shut at midnight each day but longer opening hours are sought for December 7 to January 1.
