Four new restaurants are set to open at Weston’s Dolphin Square complex in the coming weeks, as the latest phase of the multi-million-pound redevelopment draws to a close.

Preto, 7Bone Burger Co, Loco Mexicano and Prezzo are due to welcome their first customers by the end of April, with units fast filling up at the £45million leisure hub.

Popular chains Nando’s and Pizza Express opened late last year, and coffee shop Costa, bingo café Luda, 24-hour gym Anytime Fitness, and Cineworld’s eight-screen multiplex have been operating for several weeks.

Simon Berry, managing director of McLaren Life, told the Mercury he is ‘very pleased’ with how the development has materialised – adding traders have reported ‘very encouraging’ trade since opening.

Italian eatery Prezzo is the first of the quartet of restaurants to begin trading, opening for business today (Thursday).

In February Prezzo’s owners TPG Capital announced it would close a third of its 300 restaurants across the UK amid declining sales, leaving doubt over whether it would fulfil its place at Dolphin Square.

But the Mercury has been told the Weston branch is not earmarked for closure, which Mr Berry described as ‘good news’.

He said: “We are very pleased with the scheme and certainly reports from current occupiers on trade have been very encouraging.

“We hope the people of Weston will be proud of the scheme and everyone will look to support the operators in the new Dolphin Square over the coming weeks and months.

“7Bone Burger Co is fitting out and due to open in the coming weeks.

“Prezzo is due to open this week and I understand it is not listed for closure as part of the company voluntary arrangement to close some restaurants, which is good news.

“Loco Mexicano has started its fit out and Preto is due to commence fitting out in the next couple of weeks.

“We would hope all of the above are all open by the end of April or thereabouts, but the exact timings of openings is subject to the individual operators.”

Some of the restaurants are in the process of recruiting staff.
