BLUE shark, camel, kangaroo and a host of other exotic animals are on the menu at a pub that has reopened under new management.
The Full Quart in Hewish is now being run by manager David Watson and head chef Gary Dallas who have vowed to try something a little different with its menu.
To this end they have wasted no time in turning the pub’s menu around to offer something rather different.
Mr Watson, who used to be in the Royal Navy, said: “We’re trying to do something different.
“Gary, who has also come from the Royal Navy, has always wanted to do a steak menu and so that’s what we have decided to do, with a bit of a twist.”
A range of unusual steaks will welcome visitors to the pub, which stands by the A370, ranging from kangaroo, zebra, alpaca, camel, venison, bison and wild boar to marlin and blue shark.
Mr Watson has experience in producing such menus – back in 1976 to mark the release of the blockbuster Jaws he became the first person in the UK to sell shark meat on a commercial basis.
To accompany their exotic and unusual menu the duo have also launched a range of 19 marinades, such as sweet chilli and lime, Moroccan, sweet and sour and piri piri.
Mr Watson added: “We’re going to give Marco Pierre-White a run for his money.
“We want to change the concept of the restaurant, and do something to what else is on offer in the area.”

At least these meals won't be on offer at farmfoods or Iceloand --Because that is the type of meal that you are now being served up in 'Pub Fayre' eateries

I ought to have read the article more closely -- I don't think that we will see a advert outside stating -- 'All Local Produce'

I want to know what's so "fabulous" about a Blue SharK? It's funny how that when something becomes endangered people automatically see it as some sort of divine, sacred creature. It sounds tasty to me, as would I to it. Someone please explain to me why it would even matter is blue sharks died out?

As I have a choice of where to eat and what to eat, this once favoured Pub has just been crossed off my list.

The Blue Shark is a beautiful creature with a current conservation status of "Near Threatened" ... between 10 - 20 million per year are caught as by-catch making it the most heavily fished shark in the world. I find it deeply offensive that such a fabulous animal is used as a publicity grabbing menu item
