A TEAM of three air cadets from Clevedon have been named runners up in a national aerospace challenge.

The members of 1446 (Clevedon) Squadron of the Air Training Corps took part in the 2011 School’s Aerospace Challenge, which is held to introduce teams of young people to aerospace engineering.

Each year a theme is set by the RAF, with 2011 teams asked to submit ideas on how blended wing technology could transform RAF tactical and strategic transport aircraft designs.

The Clevedon team was made up of Cadet Flight Sergeant Matthew Gardiner, Cadet Sergeant Rog Hunt and Cadet Corporal Jake Bamford.

As runners up they received cheques for £250 each, as well as the same amount for their squadron, at a prize-giving ceremony at the Institution of Mechanical Engineers in London.
