The event was held to raise money for the group NoPilrow, which is fighting against a proposed wind farm, by Broadview Energy, in Rooksbridge.

Seven races were run on the pedal-powered horses, with guests having the chance to buy one of the mechanical animals as well as placing bets.

A total of £1,310 was raised on the night. NoPilrow spokesman David Maud said: “These added funds are very welcome as we are now stepping up our campaign in readiness for the planning application.

“This has been a very good week, with the fantastic news that the two Huntspill wind farms have been rejected by Sedgemoor District Council.

“It is obvious that the residents of Somerset do not want monstrous mechanical structures blighting their beautiful open countryside.”
