Police and crews from Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service (DSFRS) were sent from Cheddar and Wells to Rodney Stoke to deal with the incident this morning (Monday).

The call to Wells Road came at about 7.35am and saw live electric wires brought down in the crash.

A DSFRS spokesman said: “Crews confirmed one vehicle which had left the highway, with no persons trapped, but with one casualty still within the vehicle.

“Crews confirmed that live power lines had been severed in the collision, leaving them unable to gain access to the casualty due to these live wires at the time.”

Western Power was called to make the scene safe and police reopened the road several hours later.

No injuries were reported by the emergency services.

Western Power says about 20 homes in the area are currently without electricity but it expects the issue to be fixed later this afternoon.
