Car park £50 fines for flouting rules

PLANS to fine motorists for staying longer than two hours in a car park could have a ‘massive impact’ on a community facility.

Drivers are soon to be slapped with a ticket for at least £50 if they leave their vehicles too long in the area next to Matalan and Boots in Locking Castle.

Private company Total Parking Solutions has been taken on by landowner Clerical Medical to put cameras in the car park off Bransby Way near The Campus.

Once operational the cameras will issue tickets to all vehicles which overstay the two hours permitted.

Staff from the retail outlets on-site will have permits registered against their vehicles, which will prevent tickets being issued against them.

The company is awaiting a list of the permitted retail outlets from the landowner in order to start compiling registration plate numbers from the staff.

A spokesman for The Campus, which is used regularly by locals who park in the area next to Boots and Matalan, said: “If this parking system is implemented it will have a big impact on those using the facilities here.

“It is our understanding that a good number of spaces have to be made available for public parking and we are speaking to the landowners and the stores at the moment about this.”

The parking charge notice fee will be £50 for the first 14 days.

If it is not paid it rises to £70 and after that further charges will apply.

The Campus, a North Somerset Council-run centre, was a flagship development when it was built a few years ago.

It contains Herons’ Moor Community Primary School, as well as a library and sports and recreational facilities.
