THE annual Carols in Candlelight service at All Saints Church in Weston has fallen prey to the heavy snowfall and has been cancelled for the first time in its 14-year history.

The services were due to be held tonight (Mon) and tomorrow afternoon (Tues) in aid of Cancer Research UK, but organisers say they have no option but to cancel them for the safety of singers and guests.

Organiser John Crockford-Hawley said: “The hillside roads are becoming more dangerous by the hour and singers are having difficulty coming from as far afield as London, Glasgow and South Wales. In the circumstance it would have been irresponsible of us to cause unnecessary travel.”

“It is disappointing that we’ll not been able to make the usual donation of the collections to Cancer Research UK, nor will we be able to record the service for Hospital Radio’s Christmas Day programme.”
