YOU could be appearing at court – if you are interested in becoming a Magistrate.
North Somerset Magistrates Court in St Georges, near Worle, is looking for volunteers to sit as a Magistrate in court, hearing cases and handing out sentences.
Applications are welcomed from anyone aged over 18 and there is no need to have any legal knowledge.
A spokesman for the courts service said: “We want people of good character who can think logically, understand people and social issues and have a sense of fairness.
“We want to appoint people from all walks of life in our communities.
“Of course, you will be trained and have a legal adviser. But you make the decisions, not them.”
The role will require the person to sit in court for one to two days a month.
It is unpaid, but there will be opportunities to claim travel and subsistence costs.
A period of observing in court will be required and full training will be given.
