Chapel bell tolls to celebrate opening

DOZENS of people braved freezing temperatures to celebrate the opening of the chapel at Milton Road Cemetery in Weston.
The town’s mayor Councillor Phil Judd cut the ribbon to mark the opening on Saturday and Roger Goulding from the Heritage Lottery Fund, which helped fund the project, rung the chapel’s bell, which had not sounded for more than 30 years.
MP John Penrose made a speech before members of the public along with councillors and the Friends of Milton Road Cemetery entered the chapel for the first time since it closed in 2007.
A photographic exhibition by Worle Community School pupils is now on display in the chapel.
Zoe Clements, Weston Town Council’s development officer, said it had been a ‘wonderful project to work on’ and thanked everybody who made it a success.
