Home-Start North Somerset provides support to parents across the district and chose to celebrate its 10th birthday with a party in Kewstoke with face-painting, cakes and entertainment.

The charity’s senior organiser, Julie Parsons, said: “It was fantastic. We had about 60 people, we invited all of our volunteers and families.

“We had long service awards. There are about seven volunteers who have been with us for more than five years.”

Volunteers sign up for at least a year and have to be willing to commit to two or three hours a week to spend with their assigned family.

The founder of the charity, Margaret Harrison, also attended the event and Julie said: “She started Home-Start 42 years ago.

“It was so nice of her to be able to attend.”
