TWO football clubs from North Somerset will come together to mark the death of a young man who played for both teams.
Winscombe Football Club will face Clevedon Football Club on August 4 in memory of Paul Thorogood, who died as a result of a work accident in 2007.
The 22-year-old suffered fatal injuries after being trapped against a wall by a truck.
Despite the best efforts of staff at Bristol Royal Infirmary (BRI), he died of his wounds.
To mark his memory and raise funds for the BRI his family and friends organised the first fundraising match between his former clubs in 2008.
This year’s match – the fifth to be played – will take place at Clevedon’s ground in Coleridge Vale at 3pm on August 4.
Mr Thorogood’s sister, Claire Thorogood, said: “Every year we have surpassed ourselves with the amount raised. Last year we raised more than £1,400 for the BRI and it would be great if this could be beaten again this year.”
The raffle prizes at this year’s match include a signed Bristol City football shirt, a boat ride in Bristol and meal vouchers.
Anyone wishing to donate a raffle prize can contact Ian Thorogood on ithorogood@blueyonder.co.uk or 01275 877982.
