Somerset firefighters have handed a local youth trust a cheque for £400.

Cheddar Fire Station collects for charity at a number of events throughout the year, including the village festive night.

The officers are then invited to recommend local charities to receive the money and this year the first one was Cheddar Youth Trust.

The trust raises funds and makes financial grants to young people from the village who wish to develop their talents, education or to serve communities here or abroad.

The group was first set up in 2000 and has handed out almost £130,000 in grants.

Trust chairman Clive Panchaud said: “We are very grateful to everyone for their generosity – this donation from the firefighters will enable us to continue our work in helping young people.”
