Villagers went back in time at the weekend to learn more about World War One and how it affected the people of North Somerset.

Cleeve’s Holy Trinity Church hosted a history afternoon on Sunday, with guests examining a wide range of pieces from the past with the centenary of the end of the war approaching.

Armistice Day on November 11 will mark 100 years since World War One’s end, and history fanatics gathered to learn more about how the war affected Cleeve.

A display remembering all the village’s heroes who served during the war proved popular, and this will also be used as part of the church’s remembrance service.

The event was organised by Rachel Kew, Catherine Hunt and Sarah Cush, who paid tribute to the efforts of local historian Dave Ridley, whose wisdom proved invaluable in creating the showcase.
