Tributes have been paid to a former town mayor who has died.

Cllr Jeremy Gall was the mayor for Axbridge in 2010 and served on its town council for 14 years.

Mayor Barbara Wells said Cllr Gall was a ‘much-respected member of the community’.

She added: “He had the challenging role of chairing the highways advisory group, working hard behind the scenes to strive for improvements in highway safety, was involved in the allotments and the setting up of the community table.

“He played a key role in the purchase of the car parks and was the IT expert in the council.

“He was also an active and valued member of the church.

“Above all, Jeremy was a family man and a gentleman, in the true sense of the word.

“We are lucky to have known him.

“Our love and condolences go to all his family and friends.”

In 2010, Cllr Gall raised more than £100 for Weston Hospicecare during a sponsored ride.
