Dodgeball is coming to Weston

IT MIGHT lack Ben Stiller and Vince Vaughn, but dodgeball could be coming to Weston after a school sports coach decided to set up a competitive league.

Sam Neat, aged 22, of Turnock Gardens, West Wick, is working with the UK Dodgeball Association (UKDBA) to set up a league in Weston.

The game sees two teams of six face off on an indoor court and attempt to eliminate every member of an opposing team by hitting them with a ball.

The game has exploded in popularity since the 2004 comedy film Dodgeball starring Ben Stiller and Vince Vaughn.

Mr Neat, a sports coach who works in two schools in Bristol, said: “I’ve seen the response from children and they love it.

“But it is a game that can be played by everybody, adults as well as children.”

He is inviting those interested to get a team of six people aged over 16 – both men and women – to sign up.

If the idea takes off, the league could be extended to other towns and cities, he said.

Mr Neat, of Big Hit Dodgeball, also said he wants to start a formal junior league, the dodgeball equivalent of Weston’s Woodspring junior football league.
