Weston-super-Mare coastguard and police were called out to Sand Bay this afternoon (Thursday) to search for someone entering the cold sea.

The RNLI and police joined the search in the water and along the Toll Road and shoreline at 3.30pm.

A coastguard spokesman said: “A shoreline search was conducted, as well of searches in the water by RNLI Weston lifeboat station and coastguard helicopter rescue 187.

“Police also conducted searches along the Toll Road, and located a person who met the description of the possible casualty.

“If you think you see anyone in trouble around the coast, dial 999 and ask for the coastguard.”
