A MUM who battled with breast cancer and has raised thousands of pounds for Weston Hospicecare is organising another event in aid of the organisation.

Nikki Smith was diagnosed with the killer disease five years ago at the age of 37 and underwent a double mastectomy and four reconstructive operations.

She was treated at the hospice’s Time4U which is a service available for curative patients.

Since completing her chemotherapy sessions she has held two balls which have raised more than £20,000 for the hospice – and now she is planning another soiree.

Nikki, who is married to Simon and has one daughter and four stepchildren, is holding an afternoon cocktail party at La Cucina in Uphill on Sunday from 2.30pm.

She said: “Weston Hospicecare has touched me and I have seen how it works. My experiences of their services opened my eyes to the fact that such places and services actually exist! But I also saw that it needed lots of money, money that had to be given voluntarily which is why I now do my bit to help.

“Now that I have come through, my general outlook on life is completely different. I now enjoy each day and don’t expect too much out of life.”

Tickets for the cocktail party cost £30 which includes a sparkling drink on arrival, canapés throughout the afternoon and entertainment. They are available from Nikki on 07941 991015.
