Bailiffs are evicting travellers from Weston-super-Mare’s Beach Lawns today (Tuesday) but North Somerset Council is once again heading to court in a bid to evict others from Hutton Moor Leisure Centre.

A group of travellers set up on the Beach Lawns on Wednesday and the council asked them to leave the site that same night.

But the authority had to go to North Somerset Courthouse to secure an order from magistrates to evict the group.

A spokesman told the Mercury today: “We are evicting them with bailiffs today. We went to court yesterday and have instructed bailiffs to remove them from the area.”

The council does not believe the area has been damaged by the group, but said the council will carry out a clean of the Beach Lawns.

Magistrates are also due to decide on the fate of another group of travellers this afternoon, who have set up at Hutton Moor Leisure Centre in Hutton Moor Road.

At least three caravans are on the site, but the council hopes to evict them in the next few days.

The authority is also asking magistrates to provide an eviction order for people who have been staying in Locking Road car park.
