A cruise ship made a rare appearance off the coast of Weston-super-Mare, when it docked at Steep Holm island.

The visit by Hebridean Sky took two years of planning by Joy Wilson, secretary of the Kenneth Allsop Memorial Trust, which owns Steep Holm.

She worked with the ship’s owners Caledonia, which specialises in organising small ship cruises to remote places, to make the stop off happen.

The passengers enjoyed guided tours around the island, and talks from the trust’s knowledgeable archaeologists.

They also had tea and homemade cakes in the café before they re-boarded the ship.

The boat was moored near the island all day, and was clearly visible from Weston seafront.

Organisers said the visit was a great success.

Prior to their Steep Holm stop-off Hebridean Sky passengers had been to Scotland, Northern Island, Belfast and the Isle of Man and were due to visit Wales.
