FOLLOWING the success of Weston Air Festival and the Armed Forces Day celebrations last month, a date for next year’s two-day event has been announced.

The festival is estimated to have attracted more than 170,000 people, who enjoyed impressive air displays and entertainment on Weston’s seafront.

The RAF’s Red Arrows and one of the mighty Avro Vulcan’s last flights before it goes into retirement wowed the crowds, and now North Somerset Council has revealed work is already under way for next year’s event, which will be held on June 18-19, 2016.

The authority’s executive member for tourism Felicity Baker said: “This year’s event was a fantastic crowd-puller and advert for the area.

“Visitor number estimates for the Sunday were a staggering 150,000 and crowds enjoyed beautiful weather and brilliant aerial displays, as well as looking at the many displays on the ground.

“People were also able to take in the Armed Forces Day events – a chance to appreciate all the great things our armed forces do or us.

“Planning is now getting under way for next year’s event.”
