Events in Weston to mark Deaf Awareness Week

Deaf Awareness Week will next week showcase the work groups in the district do.

Assistance dogs and owners will be in the Sovereign Shopping Centre, in Weston-super-Mare, to meet on Tuesday from 10am-2pm.

Weston Town Hall will host a number of organisations including Hearing Dogs and Citizens Advice, on Wednesday.

A communication day will also be held at the Town Hall on May 17, where there will be a deaf and blind awareness session, and lip-reading and British sign language taster sessions.

Throughout the week, there will be information stands in the Town Hall, and schoolchildren will take part in signed story lessons. The sessions have been organised by Weston College, with help from Hearing Dogs For The Deaf and interpreters.
