More than 800 children from 17 schools across Weston and the surrounding villages have entered John Penrose’s fifth annual contest.

The winning design chosen will feature on the front of the MP’s cards, which will be sent to more than 500 people including Prime Minister David Cameron and Secretary of State Ken Clarke.

A trip to the Houses of Parliament is also up for grabs for those children who contributed to the card, which will have designs on the inside and back also.

Mr John Penrose said: “Every year I’m amazed by how many children take part in the competition, but this year the response has been phenomenal with a record breaking 826 entries.

Jake Maclachlan, yr 5 Castle Batch Community

“It’s fantastic that so many children have taken part. A lot of imagination and effort have gone into all of the designs, so it’s going to be extremely difficult to pick a winner.”

The winning designs will be featured in the Mercury this month.
