A primary school in Burnham-on-Sea has been rated as good by education watchdog Ofsted.

St Andrew’s Junior School in Dunstan Road was visited by inspectors at the beginning of February and a report rating it as good has just been released.

It says teaching in the school is good and added: “Staff morale is high and there is a palpable sense of everyone working together as a team.

“Pupils are well behaved, polite and friendly. Their personal development is promoted well, not just in lessons but also through a wide range of extra-curricular activities.”

The report says the school should improve its training for teaching assistants, ensure pupils make better progress in maths – with a particular focus on girls – and work to improve the attendance of disadvantaged pupils and children who have special educational needs.
