Kings Of Wessex Academy students were celebrating another set of superb exam results today (Thursday).

The year saw the introduction of new, tougher GCSE exams in many subjects and Kings students rose to the challenge.

In total, 76 per cent of students achieved a grade 9-4 in both English and maths while 52 per cent of students achieved a ‘strong pass’ in both.

Students performed well across the board, especially in core subjects maths, English and science with more than 80 per cent of students achieving 9-4 grades in at least one of the subjects.

Executive headteacher, Gavin Ball, was delighted with the results following his first year at the school.

He added: “In a year where Kings students have shone in public speaking, sports, charity fundraising and the expressive arts, we are very proud that they have also excelled in their academic achievements. These results reflect the fantastic dedication of our students and staff. I would like to thank our community for their support. We have a dynamic school of which we can all be very proud. We have amazing students at Kings and my congratulations go out to them all.”

There were a number of exceptional performances, including Anna Wadey who achieved seven grade 9s and Matthew Bluman who achieved an ‘outstanding’ 11 GCSEs at grade 8 and above or equivalent.
