A GROUP of children who organised the construction of a climbing wall in their school were thrilled when it was finally built last week.

Pupils aged between eight and 11 from Windwhistle Primary School in Weston handled every aspect of creating the new equipment, from surveying fellow pupils to submitting an application for funding.

Weston Excellence, a group of schools which gives money out to schools for projects, granted £5,000 to build the ‘traversal wall’ after children made a presentation to the group in February.

But first, they trawled manufacturer websites and thoroughly researched the costs to come up with a viable plan.

Brooklyn, from year four, Cheyenne, from year five, Oliver, Millie, Trinity and Tommy from year six and Luke, now in year seven, were supported by teacher Miss Williams throughout the project.

Headteacher Lyn Hunt said: “We decided this would be a really great project to build up the children’s confidence and skills.

“They were just beside themselves with excitement. They can’t believe that a project they created themselves has come to fruition.

“They have proved they can do it and the fruits of their labour are now out there in our playground.”
