Cash donated to preschool for vital repairs

Hundreds of pounds has been donated to a village preschool to help pay for costly repairs, but it faces a race against time to stay open.
A grant of £778 was awarded to Congresbury Community Preschool (CCP) by Congresbury Parish Council this month, which will help pay for a £6,500 replacement roof for its cabin.
The parish council allocated its entire remaining grant budget for the financial year to the preschool.
CCP runs two services in the village, at St Andrew’s School and in the cabin.
It has raised almost £1,100 through online pledges, but with the grant it still must raise more than £4,000 in the coming weeks.
Eva Huxtable, CCP chairman, revealed it may have to close the cabin imminently because the roof could collapse.
Parish council chairman Diana Hassan said: “We’ve got the money in the grant budget; we should give it to them and then see what we can do in next year’s budget.”
