Weston College wants to ‘develop cricket in the local community’ after announcing a ‘fantastic’ partnership with Uphill Castle Cricket Club.
The college and the club will share resources in a bid to unearth hidden sporting talent in the town.
Uphill will benefit from access to the college’s training facilities, plus the college has pledged to recruit new young stars with bat and ball.
The college will also offer courses to volunteers at the club, including first aid and safeguarding.
In turn, the college will host sporting fixtures at Uphill Castle’s Bridgwater Road ground.
The college’s sports development and performance manager, Paul Taylor, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for our students and Uphill Castle Cricket Club. Uphill is a brilliant community partner.
“We are both really focused on engaging the wider community and are looking to encourage both male and female players with our programmes as well as those who may never have played.”
Uphill Castle spokesman, Ade Gardener, added: “This is an exciting partnership for the club. It really shows our intent as a club to improve cricket in the local community.
“It also shows we are keen to develop our own players from five years old right up to our first team.
“We are also championing the England and Wales Cricket Board’s Little Stars programme which offers children a way into cricket.”
