Primary school children have been crowned champions of North Somerset after winning a gymnastics competition.

Year four pupils from St Anne’s Primary School, which has campuses in West Wick and Hewish, won the North Somerset School Games gymnastic competition at Gemini Gymnastic Club in Nailsea.

The youngsters had to showcase their gymnastic skills with floor and vault routines, earning points for their team.

Some St Anne’s students ranked highly in the individual competition, but a rounded team effort led the school to victory.

St Anne’s sports co-ordinator Lin Hodges said the training sessions had paid off.

She said: “The children had been practising hard at after school gym club.

“They took to the floor and vault with confidence and timed their moves perfectly, finishing in
first place being crowned North Somerset champions.”
