A group of schoolchildren from Mead Vale will be doing their bit for wildlife this year, by sponsoring an endangered animal.

Year five children at Mead Vale Primary School, in Kestrel Drive, have been learning about animals close to extinction and the impact humans have on the environment and their habitats.

The pupils took part in a sponsored run around the field to raise money for the project last week.

They attempted to run 100 miles in total, by adding up how far the children managed altogether.

The pupils and teachers have not yet decided which animal they would like to sponsor, as they are going to wait to see how much money they have managed to raise first.

Elephants, rhinos, lions and turtles are among the animals they could choose to raise money for.
