WESTON College are offering adults a chance to pick out a course and get back on track for employment during the national Adult Learners’ Week.

Throughout this week people can discover what subjects may be suitable for them at a pop-up shop which will be open in Weston’s Sovereign Shopping Centre, opposite Druckers Café. The shop will be manned by staff who will talk about courses, training and give out general advice.

Mandy Williams, of Weston, was unemployed before she went on Weston College’s ASPIRE course, which helps adults find a path back to work.

She said: “I hadn’t been in education since I was at school so I was a bit worried about going back. But the people running the ASPIRE course were brilliant, and I absolutely loved it.

“I was made to feel very welcome and now I’ve got certificates in health and hygiene and first aid. I’m now applying for care work jobs and I’m crossing my fingers I will get something soon.

“I would say to any adult who hasn’t been in education for a while to give Weston College a try. You get lots of support and help along the way, and your confidence improves. Mine certainly has.”

Free taster sessions in a wide range of subjects will run at the college’s Knightstone Campus all week. These include sessions such as carpentry, English skills, hair and beauty, maths and motor vehicle maintenance.
