Students from a Worle school have been presented with awards for the millions of words they have read over the past six months.

Worle Community School has set up a literacy scheme to reward pupils for their fantastic reading efforts and library work.

Students are quizzed on the books they have read since the summer and the number of words they have read are then totalled up.

The academy, in Redwing Drive, crowned Serena Cobbinhah, Georgina Rodgers and Laura Bradshaw as accelerated reader word millionaires.

Worle Community School places a huge emphasis on reading across each year group and a number of other students are on track to becoming millionaires through the innovative scheme.

Principal Jacqui Scott said: “Reading is absolutely essential to fantastic GCSE results.

“This is incredible reading progress by these students.”
