ONE of Weston College’s buildings has been recognised for its design at an awards ceremony.
The college’s South West Skills Campus was up for a number of awards at the Local Authority Building Control (LABC) Building Excellence Awards.
The campus, in Locking Road in Weston-super-Mare, was a finalist in the Best Educational Building and Best Change of Use of an Existing Building categories.
The campus was designed to provide training in a full range of construction trades to target skills gaps in North Somerset.
The college’s assistant principal Linda Burlison said: “The college believes in investing for its learners, and the campus, will make a significant contribution to the training of a workforce ready to meet the demands of the future.”
The site also includes an automotive technology centre, which was created in the former Renault garage, to train mechanics.
The project was put together by construction company Midas and its group business development director, Andy Smith, said: “I am delighted that the campus has been recognised as one of the best new developments in the South West.
“We are delighted to have delivered this project with the college team.
Ms Burlison said: “We’ve worked hard with our partners, including Midas, to ensure our outstanding college offers the best possible learning environment.”
