New-look hair salons have opened at Weston College after a £200,000 revamp.

The college’s principal and chief executive Dr Paul Phillips joined award-winning hairdresser Steven Smart to open the new salon.

Steven opened his first salon in Weston in 1999 and last year he won the Wales and South West Hairdresser Of The Year Award.

He carried out a demonstration at the event in a bid to inspire students.

The subject area manager for hair and beauty at the college, Sandra Bull, said: “It was a great opportunity for our learners to see first-hand the expertise of one of our local employers.”

Dr Phillips added: “These refurbished salons show our ambition to provide the most up-to-date facilities for our students.

“These new salons will provide the perfect learning environment where young people and adults can learn the skills that will lead to a successful career in the industry.”
