Steve Fowell, from Mendip Green Primary School, won the School Chef Of The Year competition last year, and is having another go to try to retain his title.

He will have competition in the South West regional final on Tuesday from Wayne Young who works at Worlebury St Paul’s Primary School.

Steve will hope to impress the judges with a Texan pie with vegetables, sweetcorn relish and tortilla chips.

He will follow it up with a peach pudding, topped with crème brûlée and raspberry coulis.

Wayne is planning to serve a vegan aubergine and chickpea curry with coconut rice, and a carrot cake cookie.

The winner in the South West heat will go on to represent the region in the national final, which will take place on March 8.

A runner-up will also make the final.
