Fire damages two homes in Wedmore

Four fire engines battled a blaze on the roof of a building in Wedmore for four hours last night (Saturday).

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service was called to The Old Post Office in Cocklake at 6.21pm.

The fire involved two properties and is believed to have been started accidentally.

Nobody was in the building at the time and the Red Cross were on hand to offer support to the occupiers.

The fire started in the first floor of the Old Post Office and caused 50 per cent fire damage and 80 per cent smoke damage to the bedroom and 20 per cent fire damage to the roof space.

Crews from Cheddar, Wells, Glastonbury, Weston, Bridgwater, Burnham, Street and Shepton Mallet attended the incident.
