A BURSARY scheme for any start-up food businesses has been announced for a Weston festival – while a number of new attractions have been added to the schedule.

The Mercury-supported Weston super Food Festival will be held in the Winter Gardens and Town Square on September 26-27.

North Somerset Council has provided funding to give two new businesses the chance to have a free stand at the event.

To be eligible, businesses must have only recently begun trading, based in North Somerset and not sell something already available at the festival.

The stands will be in the indoor market, and any businesses interested in applying should contact organiser Sally Packer on

There are plenty of new attractions at this year’s event, which includes specialist food from chefs from around the world.

Sally said: “I’m really excited about this year’s festival. We have so many award-winning products this year which just goes to show how good the West Country is for food and drink.”

This year’s event will include Japanese sushi, a Spanish buffet and traditional French and Portuguese food in the outdoor market.

There will also be a vintage caravan offering a range of cocktails and homemade cordials.

Wild and foraged hedgerow food will be available from From Nature and Wild Food Kitchen.

Both businesses specialise in sourcing their food from the wild, bringing a unique flavour to their dishes.

A number of specialist producers have already been confirmed for the indoor market.

Stalls will include specialist liquors, wines, beers, cakes, cheese and chocolates.
