A former mayor will be celebrated at a civic ceremony later this month.

Former mayor of Axbridge, Barry Hamblin has been selected to receive a civic award at this year’s civic service at St John the Baptist Church, in The Square.

Mr Hamblin has been chosen for the time, effort and enthusiasm he has put into establishing and managing the Axbridge and Cheddar Valley Sea Cadets unit.

He has also been actively involved in many other organisations which have benefitted the town.

Jamie Harris has been selected as one of the recipients of the young person’s award winners in recognition of his sailing achievements.

He became the cadet world champion in Argentina and receiving the Somerset Young Sportsperson Of The Year Award in 2017.

The presentation will be held at 2.50pm on February 25 where there will be presentations and talks.
