A number of fire engines were called to Regent Street shortly after 11am, and police closed the road.

A spokesman from Avon Fire and Rescue Service said four fire engines were sent to the fire in the three-storey building, all from Weston Fire Station.

This included one ladder appratus.

They added: “The fire was in a frying range, where they cook fish and chips.

“We had two firefighters using breathing apparatus go in, they used co2 extinguishers to put out the fire.”

No-one was injured in the fire, and crews have now left the scene.
