A 13-YEAR-OLD boy from Weston has won an award for his fundraising efforts for Diabetes UK.

Brandon King was diagnosed with type one diabetes at the age of 10.

He raised over £400 for the cause during a collection day. Brandon’s mum, Rebecca King said: “We saw there was this opportunity to fundraise at Tesco and Brandon couldn’t wait. He was badgering me to put on a silly hat and get stuck in.”

The money raised will go towards funding holidays and camps where children with diabetes can meet. Ms King said: “Brandon is really good at talking to adults and children about diabetes.

“There are lots of misconceptions about the disease, especially type one, people don’t fully understand what it is and he’s great at helping them to understand.” Brandon will be visiting the Houses of Commons on June 30 to officially collect his award.
