OUT came the bunting and the platters of sandwiches for a village-wide celebration which took place this weekend.

The Bleadon street party was held on Saturday afternoon in glorious sunshine – and families, friends and neighbours came in swathes to enjoy the event.

The Bleadon Church Friends organised the party, which commemorated Victory in Europe Day, to raise money for church funds.

Villagers dressed in 1940s-themed outfits and the car park of the village hall in Coronation Road was awash with soldiers, evacuees and ladies in headscarves.

Everyone shared food and stories, and the RAFA band played favourite songs from the era throughout.
