A COMMUNITY church in Weston is hoping it will become one of the winners of a Go Kids Go! grant to improve its outdoor play area for children.

Vintage Community Church runs youth groups, toddler groups, a homeless feeding problem and has a community café at its site in Hughenden Road.

Church leader, Claire Rogers, said: “We have 20 toddlers attend on a weekly basis with their parents or carers.

“We provide a giant bouncy castle and toy room, as well as an outside play space.

“We are also running quarterly youth events, for 11 to 16-year-olds.

“We have a group of about 10 young people and we take them to the seafront, host movie nights and barbecues.”

But the group is hoping it will receive funding from Go Kids Go! – a scheme headed up by the Mercury and Weston Lions Club to help get children in the area active – for a new play area.

Claire said: “We are looking for funding to create a playground space outside, for all children who use the facilities throughout the week.

“We have a fenced-in grass area with a few toys at present but we would look to buy some sports sets, rounders and football equipment for use with our young people aged between 11 and 16 at our youth group.

“We are hoping the group will build overtime as it is newly formed.”

The organisation has asked for £1,000 from the scheme which is now in its fourth year and currently has a funding pot of £11,000 to give away to community groups.

Last year Go Kids Go! handed out cash to 24 groups.
