THE leader of 1st Shipham Guides who has battled breast cancer twice inspired the village group to raise money to help patients at Weston General Hospital.

The five girls took part in a sponsored walk in November and raised £173.05 which was presented to Corinne Thomas of the hospital’s oncology day centre last week.

They were motivated to organise the event in honour of their leader Jenny Hill, who was one of the first patients to be given chemotherapy treatment at the hospital 11 years ago.

She also fought off the disease for a second time in 2006 with the help of the hospital’s oncology unit.
