n Librarian Paula Younger, from Weston Area Health NHS Trust, gave out free books to patients as part of the same initiative.
Paula had applied to the organisers of the international event for 25 copies of Notes On A Small Island by Bill Bryson to give away to people.
Her application was successful and on Monday she distributed her paperbacks to patients waiting for appointments in the hospital.
Paula, who heads up the North Somerset Healthcare Library at Weston General Hospital in Grange Road, Uphill, said: “It is thought of as a mood enhancing book, and is regularly selected by public libraries around the country.
“It brought a smile to my face when I read it and I hope it does the same for our patients.”
