Weston Hospicecare has organised a Big Cream Tea event

SCONES, strawberry jam and cucumber sandwiches – it is hoped these traditional British foods will help to swell Weston Hospicecare’s coffers by the end of the summer.

The charity is urging people to host their very own high tea events over the next few months as it organises a brand new event.

Weston Hospicecare is launching its first ever Big Cream Tea on June 15 where supporters can dig out their fine china and hold a series of fund-raisers before, on or after the main event.

Sue Sweet, community fund-raiser, said: “The Big Cream Tea is for everyone - from schools and offices to sports groups and book clubs.

“It can be as big or as little as you want, it could take place at home, at the office or you could even go the whole hog and hire out the village hall.”

“Every £5 raised could pay for a book that helps a mother to explain to her child about her cancer and £20 might go towards keeping all the patients in our in-patient unit pain free for a day.”

To register for the Big Cream Tea, or for more information and fund-raising ideas visit www.westonhospicecare.org.uk/thebigcreamtea or call 01934 423960.
