A Weston-super-Mare woman braved the shave for Macmillan and said she ‘could not be happier’.

Hilda Wade, aged 73, took the plunge to have her hair shaven off for the cancer charity.

She told the Mercury she was ‘amazed’ to have raised £300 through sponsorship contributions.

She added: “I am glad I could help as, due to ill health, I have been unable to compete in anything before.

“I jumped at the opportunity to do something for Macmillan when I saw the advert on the TV.

“It feels good to be able to do something for charity and it is more fulfilling than just putting money in a tin.

“You could say hair today, gone tomorrow.”

It took 30 minutes for Hilda’s hairdresser Angela Corneleus to finish shaving her hair.

Mrs Wade said: “It was a bit strange when the first piece was off and it was
good but it felt good to have done it.”
